A great find in the heart of Paris

Reviewed December 27, 2014, by Cocosuzie from Perth, Australia

We were absolutely thrilled with our stay in this beautiful apartment. It catered to all our needs and we felt right at home. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen is small but functional and sufficient, the decor very nice and homely, and we were delighted to have some privacy in the separate bedroom as we travelled with our 12 year old daughter. The location was perfect: we went to explore the sites in the book Paris By Heart by Nora James (on Amazon) and found ourselves right in the heart of beautiful Paris, with boutiques, restaurants and a couple of small supermarkets within easy walking distance. The Metro is nearby, too. The owner is kind, helpful and pleasant - in fact, she went out of her way to make our stay the very best. There are stairs to get to the apartment but not too many as it is only on the first floor. Next time we go to Paris we will rent this apartment again.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2014, by Doreen S. - Singapour

Conveniently located near the metro, a supermarket and various little cafes and restaurants, yet safe and quiet. Walkable to many attractions eg Notre Dame, Louvre and Pont Neuf. The apartment looks exactly like the photos and although a little small for our family of two adults and two teenagers, was cleverly designed, clean and functional with many amenities eg rainshower and hairdryer. The host was most helpful with recommendations and directions and there were many useful Paris travel books and brochures in the apartment. We felt very at home and welcomed. Additionally, there were chocolates for the kids and a bottle of wine for us.

  “Delightful Apartment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2014 by Jenny T., New Zealand

We stayed for 6 nights in this charming apartment - we just loved it.
Each night coming back from seeing the sights of Paris felt like coming home - comfortable and cosy. Sabine met us when we arrived and showed us around, she's a lovely, friendly lady and it was great to finally meet her.

The apartment has everything you would need provided. There's a great assortment of local maps and information for use.
It's clean, it's quiet, the bed's comfortable and being in St.Germain-de-Pres, it's close to most of the "must sees" in Paris. We walked everywhere, but the St Michel or St Germain Metro Stations are close by if needed.

The area surrounding the apartment is delightful - you live like a local, and there are cafes and boutiques everywhere you look.
If you do want to self-cater, the market is nearby and boulangeries
and boucheries abound. The kitchen is well-equipped if you decide to eat in.

We had a wonderful time in Sabine's little nest, and we didn't want to leave. Hopefully, one day we may return - we would definitely stay again.

The place is exactly as pictured here...we knew it was small, but we did not expect to (and did not) spend very much time here. The place is comfortable and ideally located for visitors to Paris; we actually walked almost all of the time. You will love Sabine, but you can't have here...she is mine...

We stayed in this apartment in 2012 and for this return trip to Paris we didn't even consider staying anywhere else. The location is perfectly centrally located and within easy walking distance of major attractions. Surrounded by restaurants and shopping. Best of all is Sabine's hospitality, she really does take the time to make she all is well and to provide useful tips. Highly recommended.

The only way to see and appreciate the real Paris; stay in an apartment and savour the local atmosphere. Met by Sabine on our arrival who could not have been more welcoming and helpful. A thorough briefing on the apartment and its location as well as a welcoming bottle of very nice red. Hints on where to go for transport/eating/shopping etc. like where the 2 local bakery's were; a whole 2-3 minutes away to get fresh breakfast.
The apartment is small by what we would be more used to, but this was Europe where lots of accommodation is not all that large.
Well fitted out with modern kitchen and bathroom. A big plus for us (3 adults) was the separate toilet. Plenty of condiments, spreads etc in the kitchen.
Highly recommend, but remember it is compact and really only suited for a couple + one adult, or two younger children.

The apartment is situated on the first floor, inside a quiet courtyard in the heart of vibrant St Germain-within easy walking distance to the Louvre, Tulleries, Notre Dame, Musée d'Orsay, Odéon metro station and St Michel RER (access to CDG airport, Versailles). We actually didn't need to use the Metro as much as we expected because the apartment is close to many iconic locations. Supermarket and fantastic restaurants, cafés, bakeries etc. are minutes from your front door. The apartment provided a quiet and comfortable haven after spending the day exploring beautiful Paris. Sabine makes you feel very welcome and completely at home as soon as you arrive. Her generous and friendly manner, emails before/during our stay and the apartment facilities all added to making our Paris holiday truly memorable. We were completely satisfied with our choice. Sabine even kindly booked our taxi for our departure, which we greatly appreciated. Nothing is too much trouble because Sabine is sincerely passionate about ensuring your stay is enjoyable. This apartment was literally a 10 minute walk to the Louvre & a 15 minute walk to Notre Dame! The location was awesome! Plus, it's a 3 minute walk to a Metro station. When we were looking for a place to stay, we knew that we wanted an apartment so we could wash clothes and fix breakfast and have snacks on hand during our trip. My husband, teen-aged daughter and I were very pleased with our choice. We were greeted by Sabine, the property owner, as soon as we arrived. She was helpful in every way. She had tons of advice on where to go & what to see. There's a cabinet in the apartment with all kinds of restaurant information, maps of the city, museum brochures - you name it, it was in there! Although the property was in a busy area, we never had any issue with noise. It was so nice to walk out and be next to so many quaint restaurants & shops. We highly recommend this apartment and would definitely stay here again.

From the time we chose this apartment for a 5 night stay in Paris to the time we left we have nothing but praise for the way our host Sabine helped us. She was waiting at the apartment when we arrived and helped with our luggage despite having an injured arm in a sling. She explained how all the appliances operated and referred us to the comprehensive set of instruction manuals should we have any problems. She was very responsive to emails before and during our stay. The apartment was clean, very quite and well appointed. Most important, it was well maintained and everything worked. It is a good size for two people and perhaps one or two small children. The location is perfect with a range of restaurants, cafés, patisseries, boutique shops, supermarkets and art galleries within a minutes walk. If we had to nominate a negative it would be the well worn communal stairs which could be difficult for guests with mobility problems.

I am normally a person who has a lot to say but am having trouble finding the words to explain what an amazing experience we had at St Germain. Before travelling we had read the other reviews and would agree with them whole heartedly.
Sabines apartment is everything it says it is plus more. We walked in and felt like we were at home, everything was beautifully clean. Sabine has gone to a lot to trouble to make you feel this way, you want for nothing!
We found the apartment with no problem and were greeted by both Sabines son and Sabine which we weren't expecting as she was recovering from surgery, and was obviously still in pain, amazing effort on her behalf.
They went out of their way to explain everything within the apartment and then had information regarding the neighbourhood and where you could find things. Nothing was to much trouble, and they answered our questions happily. St Germain has everything you need, eateries, supermarkets, chemist, boulangeries, retail therapy, you name it and it's there!
We had chosen this area as it was so close to major attractions. We only caught public transport twice, once to the Eiffel Tower as it was raining and to Montmarte. You are able to walk everywhere with ease.
Do yourself a favour, if you are planning a holiday in France, book Sabines apartment! My girlfriend had found this apartment and she missed out!
Thank you Sabine for such a wonderful experience and making our holiday so memorable .

Great location, lovely apartment, warm hospitality

I travelled from Australia to Paris with my husband and two children aged 11 years and 8 years. This was our first visit to Paris. The apartment is in a great location. We are so glad we chose the St Germain des Pres area - we were able to walk everywhere!

The apartment is accessed from a private courtyard via a single flight of stairs. There is one bedroom with a two-way bathroom providing access from both the bedroom and living areas. The shower was great and it was very helpful having our own washing/drying machine. There are two single beds which double as couches, and one of these also has a trundle bed underneath. The kitchenette, whilst small, enabled us to cook our own meals most nights (cooktop, microwave, toaster, but no oven). There are plenty of nice restaurants nearby if you want to eat out. There are also some great boulangeries and patisseries which sell awesome pastries and bread :-)

Sabine and her son Pierre provided warm, friendly and helpful hospitality. We hope to stay here again when we return to Paris!

We chose this apartment based on the location and it really just can't be beat! It is conveniently located less than a block from Rue de Buci, where we hit the bakeries and fruit stand in the morning and the cheese stand and wine shop on our way home at the end of a busy day. The Louvre and Notre Dame are about a 10 minute walk across the river, the Musee D'Orsay about a 20 minute walk. The metro is just over 5 minutes. The apartment itself is not big, but was perfect for our family of 4 and was accurately described. The kids each had their own daybed, which doubled as sofas. The kitchen (small but functional) and bath seemed to have been updated in the past few years. The apartment has lots of guide books and restaurant recommendations from previous travelers to peruse through. The wifi was great for planning out the next day's activities. Sabine, the owner, was a pleasure to work with and responded quickly to our questions. She made renting our first apartment a breeze! We have already booked a return visit!

She kept in contact and made sure all the details were in place so we could connect on our arrival. She even was patient when our metro ride from the airport took longer than expected. The apartment is absolutely wonderful. Nice size, central location, wonderful neighborhood. It was so nice to have a place to have a light dinner at the end of a long day of sightseeing. The beds were comfortable; the bathroom and kitchen had everything we needed; the beds in the living room were perfect for our kids. Sabine made us feel welcome, spoke excellent English, gave a great overview of how to get around, and shared options for places to go for meals. We stayed a week here in april. The main advantage of this place is that it is a very convenient and central location, only a couple of blocks from the Seine and just across from the Louvre. There is a lively area for groceries and restaurants about a block away. We really enjoyed the neighbourhood. This apartment is also attractively priced for downtown Paris. It has a good-sized living room and kitchen. However, the bed was small for a tall person, the bedroom cramped, and some nights the neighbours were noisy. Also the staircase to the apartment is badly worn, and could be hazardous.

Manager Response to AJSCalgary

Hello Al,
Sorry for coming back to you so late: I am now out of the hospital after a 4 weeks stay for my broken ribs!
I think my brother, who welcomed you, forgot to say that the works for repairing the stairs are going to begin very soon now. I understand your surprise about it but many parisian old buildings are the same and we are doing the works little by little. (After the roof, the hall, etc, time is now for the stairs and painting).
Regarding the noisy neighbours, I am sorry: you, indeed, were not lucky, as this is very unusual! You should have call my brother or knock at their door to know what was happening. I am so sorry about that issue.
Also about the bed: I specify in my ad that it is a queen size bed... However I understand that for tall people it can be tight.

I am very sorry because it i the first time I do not welcome myself my guests and the first time I have such a bad feedback!
I hope you'll keep in mind the best things about your stay.
Kind regards,
Sabine

I am hesitant to speak too highly of this apartment, as it is becoming too popular and therefore harder to book for the future, but there is really nothing negative to say about the place. Saint Germaine is really the perfect spot to stay , at least for us. You can easily walk to the Louvre, d'Orsay and many other sites. Sabine was kind enough to let us check in a little earlier and stay a little later to accommodate our flight schedule. Also she help orient us to the area, providing some good market and restaurant tips, showing where the metro line was, even telling us how to use the RER from CDG and to go to Versaille. The unit is very nice, well heated, the bed is comfortable and the shower is nice and hot, much bigger and more convenient than any hotel. We plan to be back next year to see the areas we missed this time. Thank you, Sabine for our wonderful time in Paris.

Her apartment is well located, walking distance to the Seine, and right in the middle of lively night and restaurant life on the Rue de Buci and Odeon. Two good bakeries a stone's throw away. Also close to two subway lines - and two delicious bistros, Le Comptoir and Les Editeurs (try os a moelle with parmesan foam at the former and scallops risotto with mushrooms at the latter). The apartment itself is located up a flight of antique stairs, overlooking a courtyard, so quiet for an apartment in the midst of action. My family of four, 2 adults and 2 children (6yrs and 3yrs) have just recently stayed in Sabine's gorgeous apartment (mid Jan) for 3 nights. We were at the end of our 6 week holiday throughout UK, Sweden and Finland and thought we'd finish the trip off in Paris. It was just what we had hoped for, and more. The apartment is very central, with lots of grocery stores, art studios, cafés/restaurants etc, plus within walking distance to lots of major tourist attractions. Walking is the best way to see Paris and we did this even with small children (in winter!), however, we also used the Batobus (sightseeing ferry) to see lots of attractions without making the children walk too far in the cold. Sabine set the tone for our entire stay when she welcomed us with her smiling face and warm, generous nature. She gave us a really thorough tour of the flat, how to use things, gave us a great run down on things that are great to see and do and where to find everything we wanted or needed for our stay. She also lent us a pram for our youngest child, which was a god send! The apartment had everything we needed, it was compact but there was enough room for all of us. The kitchen was fully equipped, the oven is a microwave with oven capability but we really didn't need to use it. There was a dining table and four chairs, complete with a wine rack and bottle of red to welcome us! The wifi was good, no problems there at all. The bathroom is nicely done, smallish but modern and has everything. There is a separate toilet and you can access this and the bathroom either through the living area or through the bedroom. The apartment was very quiet and felt secure. We highly recommend Sabine's apartment to anyone. We have told all our friends and we hope to return one day in the near future. Sabine was a fantastic host and all her communication was excellent, warm and informative...she even followed up with us after we got home!

My husband and I stayed four nights in Sabine's apartment in the middle of October. The apartment was small, yet very functional, and very clean. It was perfect for a couple. The best part was the location. I could not have been any better! We were less than a minute away from several great dining options and about a 10-15 minute walk for Luxembourg Gardens, Louve, Notre Dame and more. The only complaints would be that I wish I would been more clear on understanding how to use the washer/dryer combo. While Sabine explained it to me, we couldn't figure out how to use the dryer. I think the lack of sleep from traveling may have gotten to me. Also, the bed is small (for american standards), but we knew that when we rented the apartment. We were so tired after long days exploring Paris, that we slept fine =) Lastly, I would have liked to have a couple more bath towels (there was 2). Overall the apartment was exactly what I expected, but the location was even better. We loved all of the restaurants and bars being so close and the crowd was mostly a hip late 20's to 50's crowd. It wasn't young, but far from old and boring. I would 100% stay here again. Now I just need to plan another trip to Paris!
